Home-Start fund raising St Peter Port treasure hunt on 21 June 2013

June 18th, 2013 by Events

Local family support charity Home-Start is holding its mid-summer treasure hunt around the streets of St Peter Port beginning at 7 pm on Friday, 21 June 2013.

The fundraising event will start and finish at the Guernsey Yacht Club.

Avid explorers will be tasked to solve a mix of observational and cryptic clues all linked to Guernsey’s history before heading back to the Yacht Club for a two-course supper.

The evening will culminate in a charity raffle.

Jocelyn Dorey, organiser and Home-Start volunteer, said “it is amazing that, in a town that we feel we all know so well rarely do we have the time to really look out for all the reminders of all those infamous Guernsey characters and events that have helped to shape our past.”

Home-Start was set up five years ago. It recruits and trains volunteers in order to support local families with young children in difficult situations by providing both emotional and practical support in their own homes.

Jurat Margaret Spaargaren, Chair of Home-Start Guernsey, hopes to raise vital funds for the charity and increase awareness of the vital support Home-Start provides to so many young families on Guernsey.

“Many people have heard of Home-Start on the island but are unsure of exactly what we do.”

“As long as the family has at least one child under five years old, Home Start is able to provide some support no matter what the problem is,” she said.

“Our aim is to match the right volunteer to each family who will visit their home and offer support whatever the situation,” Jurat Spaargaren said.
