In the last 12 months, the Guernsey Disability Alliance, has organised Guernsey’s first ever speed Hustings, run the election of States’ Champion for Disabled People and brought Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson to Guernsey.

The GDA is a dynamic charity with an active and engaged membership of disability charities, individual disabled people and professionals.

The GDA is currently working in partnership with the States of Guernsey to help develop Guernsey’s Disability and Inclusion Strategy.

The GDA has recently restructured the charity as a company limited by guarantee and we are therefore looking for people with business skills to make sure that, as the GDA grows the develops, the organisation continues to be managed professionally.

In particular, the GDA is recruiting for the following voluntary positions:

  • Honorary Secretary
  • Honorary Tresuruer
  • Events Officer

The GDA is a hands-on charity so the volunteer will be doing more than just overseeing the GDA’s work at committee meetings.

The volunteer will help plan the GDA’s future and then make particular projects happen.

Applications for these voluntary posts are encouraged from anyone with a long-term condition or from their family or friends.

However, if you have no direct connection with disabled people, please don’t hesitate to apply.

The GDA welcomes the support of non-disabled people, especially if the volunteer is keen to see a disability equality law in Guernsey.

For more details about the roles and to make an application please visit the GDA website or call Shelaine Green on 07781 451310.

The closing date for applications is 2 April 2013.
