Sustainabilitylive! at Birmingham’s NEC from 22 to 24 May 2012

March 22nd, 2012 by Events

Sustainabilitylive! – the UK’s leading energy, water, land and sustainable business exhibition – takes place at the NEC, Birmingham from 22 to 24 May 2012.

Sustainabilitylive! comprises the National Energy Management Exhibition (NEMEX), the International Water and Effluent Exhibition (IWEX), Brownfield Expo (BEX), and Sustainable Business – The Event (SB).

The three-day event attracts hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of buyers and suppliers from the energy, water, land and sustainable business sectors, providing an ideal opportunity to explore current industry issues and share best practice.

Running alongside Sustainabilitylive! is the Smart Low Carbon Cities, Communities and Infrastructure conference.

This conference will address the need for a larger-scale decentralised energy system together with a smart grid and maximised resource efficiency – both key drivers towards achieving future climate change objectives.

A perennial big draw is the free three-day conference and comprehensive seminar programme, this year featuring a host of top-level speakers from Government and commerce along with independent commentators, such as leading environmentalist Tony Juniper, to discuss key environmental issues and challenges facing businesses today.

Tony Juniper will be spearheading the National Energy Management Exhibition (NEMEX) seminar programme, alongside a number of influential MPs, including Barry Gardiner MP, Ed Milliband’s Special Envoy on Climate Change and Environment, and Alan Whitehead MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group.

On Thursday 24 May 2012, E.ON CEO Tony Cocker will be speaking in the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) session.

Among more than 300 presenters delivering sessions in six seminar theatres will be Mervyn Bowden, Head of Energy Management at Marks and Spencer, Katie Chapman, Virgin Media’s Head of Sustainability and Reporting, and Ian Wakelin, Chief Executive Officer, Biffa.

Other high-level speakers from MITIE, EDF, Co-operative Group, KPMG, IBM, British Gas, DECC and IGEM will be covering topics as diverse as community scale carbon reduction, the zero waste vision, mapping returns from renewable energy systems, sustainable water management and brownfield development.

Once again the CIEH Standing Conference on Land Contamination will run alongside BEX, formed in 2003 to provide a voice for local authority regulators throughout the UK and a forum to discuss technical and policy aspects of the management and regulation of land contamination.

Global Action Plan will engage visitors to the exhibition with a series of EcoInteractive displays. This includes the fun quiz-based Water Explorer highlighting the need for water conservation and the EcoDriving simulator that teaches driving techniques to save money and carbon – the driver with the highest miles per gallon (mpg) winning the race.

Another highlight guaranteed to attract interest is the 24th Institute of Water Drilling and Tapping Competition which sees contestants drill and tap a 150 mm diameter ductile iron main under pressure and connect a service tap.

The winners will go on to represent the UK in June 2012 at the American Water Works Association Exhibition, Dallas Texas, thanks to main sponsors Saint Gobain PAM UK.

Sustainabilitylive! will be held in halls 3 and 3a at the NEC, Birmingham from May 22 to 24 2012.

As all of the shows offer free admission, visitors looking for joined-up thinking to solve a problem across any environmental sector, will find they add up to a winning combination.
