Sponsorships from Terra Firma and Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Ltd has helped special needs racketball sessions go from strength to strength.

For the last two years support from Terra Firma has meant that racketball coaching for children and adults with special needs in Guernsey is free and now they have agreed to supply sponsored t-shirts for participants.

Butterfield Bank give a free racket to participants who attend three sessions to encourage them to continue with the sport.

The Lord’s Taverners, Rothschild and FRM Charitable Trust have also made donations which have helped to run the scheme.

Mick Mahy, a Butterfield employee who runs the coaching sessions, says the sponsorships help to encourage people to stick with the sport.

“We’re grateful to Terra Firma for having kept the sessions free for the past two years, it really helps that people can have a go without worrying about cost.

I believe Guernsey is one of the only places that offers racketball coaching for special needs people so it’s fantastic that we’re able to do that without charging.

“Being able to give the participants t-shirts and rackets helps to make them feel part of a team which is so important.

I am thankful that our sponsors have decided to continue their involvement and make the experience even more memorable for those that take part,” he said.

Sessions are open to any special needs players but are split into Junior (15 and under) and Adult (16 and above).
