FLORAL Guernsey’s Spring Festival Week will include a visit from renowned landscape gardener and former Gardener’s World presenter, Diarmuid Gavin.

From Saturday 14 April 2012 a programme of events aimed at gardeners of all levels will take place around the island. It ends with a gala dinner at The Farmhouse and a talk by Diarmuid Gavin on ‘Inspiring gardens from around the world’.

Other events scheduled to take place during the week include an evening lecture from ‘The queen of vegetables’, Joy Larkcom, on oriental vegetables; a guided walk around Herm’s award winning gardens; and family events at local garden centres aimed at getting the next generation of gardeners started.

The festival week is one of many events made possible by a three year sponsorship deal with Resolution Limited, Guernsey’s first FTSE 100 company.

Local director of Resolution Limited, Fergus Dunlop, looks forward to Mr Gavin’s talk.

“Floral Guernsey is part of what makes our Island a garden”, said Mr Dunlop. “The Spring Festival Week, and the summer Britain in Bloom competition, are integral to Guernsey’s message, even for those of us who are not green fingered. Diarmuid Gavin is a UK household name, and Resolution Limited is delighted to support his visit. If seeing him in person sparks wider enthusiasm for gardening, it will have been be a good investment. Hopefully, we’ll add the Bailiwick to his list of inspirations, too.” he said.

Tony Spruce, Chairman of Floral Guernsey, hopes Mr Gavin will be a big draw for islanders.

“We are constantly working on making gardening more accessible and I hope that Diarmuid is going to encourage some people that might not ordinarily have attended one of our events to get involved. Resolution’s sponsorship has enabled us to make all the events relatively inexpensive to attend which is fantastic as it makes having a go open to everyone,” he said.

Full programme details and tickets are available from the Guernsey Information Centre from 2 March 2012.
