About Herm

Herm is the perfect place for Yoga. Situated 3 miles from the coast of Guernsey and measuring just a mile and a half long by a mile wide, Herm is the ideal place to truly “get away from it all”. There are no cars, no crowds, and definitely no stress.

Instead you get to share this idyllic spot with nature, enjoy the sounds of the birds and the sea and embrace the November elements.

It is a haven for both the spiritual seeker and nature lover – a place to unwind and return to that quiet place within. Herm quite naturally offers you space to think, space to breathe and space to simply be. Plus of course it is right here on our doorstep so offers a sustainable “get away from it all” option without the stress and environmental impact of onerous travel.

About the retreat

Often the best way to truly nurture a sense of inner peace is to retreat into a solitary place where you can simply be with yourself in a gentle and healing environment, away from the stresses and demands of your everyday life and routine.

Here on Be inspired’s Yoga & Wellbeing retreat, we seek to provide you with a safe, relaxed and non-judgemental environment where you can do as little or as much as you like, helping you to nurture yourself, de-stress, detoxify, rejuvenate, restore, attend to your needs, deepen your Yoga practice on and off the mat and increase your general sense of wellbeing in the process.

Not only does the peace, tranquillity and natural healing energy of Herm support our intention, but the nature of our Yoga classes, the optional treatments and activities we offer, and the fact that we try to encourage you to take responsibility for your own experience, all contribute to your potential enhanced sense of wellbeing throughout and indeed well beyond the retreat.

The Programme

After settling into our rooms on Herm and enjoying a warm beverage by the fire in The White House Hotel, we will hold our first 1.5 hour asana class followed by Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) in The Conservatory before sharing a wholesome vegetarian meal in The Mermaid.

We will start each day with morning pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation before beginning our morning 1.5 hour asana class. These two classes will be followed by a relaxing vegetarian breakfast taken together in The Mermaid.

Saturday late afternoon we will join again for a further 1.5 hour asana class, followed by Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation), before enjoying another wholesome vegetarian meal in The Mermaid.

The session ends following brunch on Sunday with the boat scheduled to leave at 11am, so you are back in Guernsey in time to enjoy the afternoon.

We have set aside time on the Saturday for you to discover Herm, treat yourself to a Reiki, Reflexology and/or Holistic massage session, turn your hand to silk painting, enjoy a life coaching session, join a walk, or simply chill out, read a book or do your own thing. A light vegetarian soup lunch will be offered during this time.

The Yoga

The Yoga classes take place in the wonderfully tranquil and well-positioned Conservatory of the White House Hotel where you can enjoy superb views of nature, the sea and the East coast of Guernsey in the background. You really do feel like you are getting away from it all in this peaceful Yoga space.

Emma teaches a flowing and dynamic form of Hatha Yoga and she will be assisted by Sheila. Together, and throughout the weekend’s classes, we will seek to awaken and balance the chakras (the body’s seven main energy centres), by combining breath with a fluid sequence incorporating a variety of poses with awareness on alignment. The tempo and creativity of each class will be determined by the group energy and alternatives will be given where necessary.

The classes are suitable for all levels of experience except those who have never practised Yoga previously. If you are in any doubt as to your fitness then please consult your GP.
