Web-based interactive seminar from Earthscan on The Meat and Dairy Crisis

Earthscan is holding a free live interactive presentation on The Meat and Dairy Crisis beginning at 5 pm UK time (GMT +1) (12.00 pm EDT & 9.00 am PDT) on Monday 11 October 2010.

This seminar will discuss the drivers that have resulted in factory farming practices, as well as animal welfare issues that have arisen as a result of selective breeding and intensive production.  The seminar will also discuss the impact of consuming meat on our health and its impact on the earth’s biosphere.

The speakers are Joyce D’Silva who has worked for Compassion in World Farming since 1985, and John Webster, Emeritus Professor at the University of Bristol.

Joyce D’Silva was Chief Executive of Compassion in World Farming for 14 years.  She is co-editing The Meat Crisis and Animals, Ethics and Trade for Earthscan.

John Wester was a founder member of the Farm Animal Welfare Council and is a former President of the Nutrition Society and the British Society for Animal Science.  Currently he is a member of the Animal Health and Welfare panel for the European Food Safety Authority.  He is co-editor of The Meat Crisis.
