Healthspan’s charity Night Ride organised by the Guernsey Bicycle Group for Saturday 19 September 2015 will raise funds for the Cardiac Action Group and the Guernsey branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The Night Ride provides routes for all ages, abilities and fitness levels.

There are five cycling routes to choose from:

  • family friendly ‘NightRide Minis’ route is a flat six mile ride along the island’s west coast setting out just before sunset.
  • A 10 mile Sunset Cruise to Pleinmont and return to Vazon;
  • A 20 mile circular Twilight Tootle,
  • A 40 mile Roaring 40
  • A 60 mile Nocturnalist route.

Rollo de Sausmarez, Chairman of the Guernsey Bicycle Group, said “we had almost 400 people taking part in 2014. Many of them were in fancy dress, which made for a great atmosphere.”

“This year we are planning simpler, easy to follow routes and gearing up for even more people to be involved to discover how fun, sociable and safe riding a bike at night can be.”

The sponsorship raised will be jointly shared between the two charities.

The Guernsey branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society seeks to supplement the services and support provided by the States of Guernsey for the benefit of MS patients in the Island including provision of healthcare and lifestyle related equipment, education, training and support for patients, their families and friends.

Steve Le Page, the charity’s chairman, said “we are delighted that we will be sharing the sponsorship raised by this year’s NightRide participants.”

Sharing the NightRide sponsorship is the Cardiac Action Group whose aim is to increase awareness of and help reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease as well as improve the quality of life and care of cardiac patients.

Gareth Corbett who Chairs the Cardiac Action Group is delighted that the charity has been chosen as one of the benefactors of the Healthspan NightRide.

Ann Outram, Healthspan’s Corporate Relations Manager, said  “riders are being encouraged to make themselves and their bicycles brightly lit and decorated for the occasion with prizes for the best fancy dress in various categories.”

“Every rider is being asked to raise a minimum of £5 for this year’s chosen charities Cardiac Action Group and the Guernsey branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society,” she said.

NightRide starts from Vazon Bay at 6.00 pm on Saturday 19 September 2015.
