The 2015 Saffery Champness Rotary Walk was a great success with approximately 470 people taking part in the 39-mile around the island walk on Saturday 6 June 2015, which was 24% more than participated in 2014.

Organisers have said that it’s now important for all those who took part to collect their sponsorship money and hand it in so that the chosen charities and organisations can get started on their projects and initiatives.

This year, for the first time, there will be a prize draw for any walker who has raised more than £100 in sponsorship.

The winner will receive an overnight stay at the Hotel de Havelet and dinner for two at the Wellington Boot Restaurant.

The draw will take place on the 2 July 2015 by the Saffery Champness Rotary Walk’s organising committee.

Those who wish to be included need to ensure they get their funds raised handed in by 30 June 2015.

David Mortimer, chairman of the walk’s organising committee said “this year’s walk was another great success, aided by some superb weather. The sunrise at 5.00 am over Herm was a marvellous sight and one which the walkers appreciated.”

“This year 11 local charities have been chosen to benefit from the sterling efforts of all the walkers who took part and we are confident that, once we have received all of the sponsorship money, the walk will have raised enough to cover the sums requested by our chosen charities.”

This year’s selected charity projects are:

·      Butes Play Park – providing new playground equipment for infants’ section of the Butes Play Park in Alderney

·      Guernsey Motor Neurone Disease Association – replacing an old air mattress and gantry hoist with up-to-date equipment

·      Parkinson’s UK Guernsey Branch – assisting with purchase of specialist equipment that is not funded by the States

·      Shiloh Church – buying a new commercial dishwasher to help with the church’s catering efforts

·      Guernsey Sailing Trust LBG – replacing one of the six old dinghies in the fleet with a new Laser Pico dinghy
