With funding from the Sarah Groves Foundation for three years, family support charity Home-Start launched ‘Dragonflies’ drop-in centre for parents and carers with pre-school children in April 2015.

The drop-in occurs on Tuesdays (including most of the school holidays) between 9.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. at Roseville Community Centre, Le Petit Bouet,  St Peter Port.

The Sarah Groves Foundation’s aim is to ‘enhance young lives’ and one of the ways to do this is through the use of art.

This ties in with the aims of the drop-in, which is led by a play-leader to give children the opportunity to explore different arts and crafts with their parents, which will follow certain themes such as seasons or celebrations.

In addition, there is a snack time for children, story time and the chance to join-in with action songs.

Volunteers are on hand to offer a listening ear should parents have any concerns such as fussy eating, sleep problems and boundary setting.

The volunteers will be able to signpost families to other agencies or match them with a Home-Start home visiting volunteer should this be helpful.

There is no charge for the drop-in and families are welcome to just turn-up.

Home-Start recruits volunteers who are parents themselves that visit families experiencing stressful times.

These volunteers work with families in a variety of situations including isolation, bereavement, multiple births, poverty, illness or disability by simply encouraging parent’s strengths and emotional well-being for the benefit of their children.

Home-Start is based at the Roseville Community Centre, where its co-ordinators recruit and train volunteers and match them with families who are supported by weekly home visits.
