Dominion MUG fund raising off-road Bike Ride on 5 October 2014

September 4th, 2014 by Male Uprising in Guernsey

Get on your bicycle in October 2014 to help raise money for MUG – Guernsey’s male cancer charity.

The second MUG Dominion Bike Ride takes place on the 5th October 2014.

The largely off-road route will take bike riders along 12 miles of Guernsey’s beautiful coastal paths.

It will take around two hours to complete and makes a great day out for the whole family with the minimum entry age being seven years old.

Riders will start at Saumarez Park, Castel and will follow the path to Grandes Rocques, then on to Rousse and L’Ancresse then Bordeaux before finishing at Vale Castle where there will be food, refreshments and music to refuel and relax.

Like the last event in 2012, there will be lots of mountain bike fun to keep more adventurous riders happy with shark’s teeth, zigzags and see-saws but more sedate riders don’t have to tackle the obstacles!

“Parts of the route are not normally open to cyclists so it’s a chance to enjoy some of Guernsey’s most scenic areas on two wheels,” Mark Smith, one of the organisers of the event, said.

The ride can accommodate up to 900 people and entry is £10.00 per person.

The first riders will set off at 10 a.m. and start times will be staggered throughout the morning. Participants can request, if they wish, a specific start time when their entry form is handed to the organisers.

The organising team will do their best to accommodate preferred start times but cannot guarantee everyone will get the time slot they have requested.

MUG is hoping to make the occasion even bigger than the inaugural event and raise more money to help prevent, treat and raise awareness of male cancers in Guernsey.

“We hope everyone will come together to make the MUG Dominion Bike Ride even better than the first one.”

“We anticipate that the atmosphere will be brilliant and everyone will have a great day.”

“You don’t have to be very fit, you don’t have to be an expert rider. We urge everyone to come along and have fun,” said Trevor Kelham founder of MUG.

“We’d like to thank the ride sponsor – Dominion, without their help this ride simply wouldn’t happen, and to have their support for a second time is very generous,” he said.

Completed entries should be handed in or posted to Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop, Les Banques, Guernsey GY1 2HZ or emailed to [email protected]
