Sous Les Courtils, Vazon to close from 7 to 11 April for sewer repair

April 4th, 2014 by Guernsey Water

Guernsey Water will be closing Sous Les Courtils, Vazon from 7 to 11 April 2014 in order to carry out repairs to a surface water sewer.

The utility has been carrying out investigations into the sewerage system in this area after the heavy rainfall and high tides of January and February 2014 led to some localised flooding.

A section of sewer has been identified as a potential cause for some of these problems, and will be repaired as a matter of urgency.

The utility anticipated carrying out the works immediately, but due to the spring tides forecast for the next few days, a decision was made to defer the works for another week.

The road will therefore remain under a one-way traffic flow restriction, currently in place due to an existing excavation, until the closure begins on 7th April 2014.

Mark Walker, Acting director of water services  said “the expected spring tide could have a negative impact on the repairs and lead to further problems, so it was felt sensible to wait until the tide had reverted to a neap tide.”

If customers do notice that there is no work going on in the road over the next few days despite being one-way, this is the reason.

We apologise for any inconvenience that these important works may cause to customers.”

Further information on traffic management arrangements is online at www.iris.gov.gg.
