Guernsey ‘Volunteer in Sport’ 18 September nomination deadline

September 9th, 2013 by Bedell Group

Bailiwick of Guernsey residents have until 18 September 2013 to submit nominations to: [email protected] for volunteers in sport to be honoured at the 2013 Bedell Volunteers’ Week night of recognition.

The ‘Volunteer Award’ recognises the significant contribution made by volunteers in sport.

In 2013, organisers launched the ‘Young Volunteer Award’ which recognises volunteers in sport 21 years and under.

The ‘Young Volunteer Award’ will be presented by the Bailiff of Guernsey Richard Collas.

Graham Chester, Guernsey Sports Commission operations director, said “we have received entries for the volunteer award and for the young volunteer award but we would like to see even more entries.”

“By launching the young volunteer award, we hope to recognise the significant contribution that those 21 years and under make to the sporting community,” he said.

Bedell Volunteers’ Week, a Guernsey Sports Commission initiative, runs from Tuesday 1 October 2013 until the night of recognition on Monday 7 October 2013.

“During Bedell Volunteers’ Week we want to recognise the efforts of all sports volunteers but also take this opportunity to highlight the commitment of two individuals in particular,” Mr Chester said.

Barry Bartlett who won the Volunteer Award in 2012 will present the accolade to the 2013 recipient.

The week of activities will also include presentations by the Guernsey Sports Commission at schools, and a ‘Hall of Fame’ depicting sports volunteers throughout the years, which will be placed at public locations across the island.

Bailiwick of Guernsey residents who wish to attend the ‘night of recognition’ on Monday 7 October 2013 between 6 pm and 7.30 pm are asked to email [email protected] to confirm attendance.

Guernsey residents can also email their nominations for the awards with the subject line: “Bedell Volunteers’ Week night of recognition nominations”.

Nominators should provide a telephone number, a summary of their nomination, and the age of the nominee.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 18 September 2013.

Residents can also email photos for the ‘Hall of Fame’ with the name and age of the individual and the sport they are involved in.

Bailiwick of Guernsey residents can follow the run up to Bedell Volunteers’ Week and the week itself through Facebook, Twitter and the Guernsey Sports Commission website.

All activity on Twitter will be marked with #BedellVolunteersWeek and #GuernseySports
