Food, drink and good company are the key ingredients for a new Les Bourgs Hospice fundraiser.

Hospice-tality for our Hospice will see islanders hosting social events for friends or family who will be asked to make an anonymous donation to Les Bourgs.

All the money raised during the month-long event in September 2013 will go towards the hospice’s £800,000 annual running costs.

“We wanted to create an event that everyone could take part in, no matter whether they are old or young, live in a small flat or a large house, have lots of friends or a select group,” said Trish De La Mare, Les Bourgs fundraising administrator.

“Hospice-tality for our Hospice is the perfect excuse to get together with people that matter while raising funds for one of the island’s most loved charities,” she said.

“The event can be as big or small as you want so it could a cuppa and cake with friends one afternoon, an informal BBQ or pizza night or a more formal dinner.”

“It doesn’t need to be something you do in your own home, companies could do a charity lunch in their boardroom, schools could do a picnic and social groups could arrange supper over a game of cards. The possibilities are endless,” she said.

To launch Hospice-tality for our Hospice, an afternoon tea has been arranged at St Pierre Park Hotel on Sunday 14th July 2013.

Tickets for the event will be £15 and the hotel has agreed not to charge for the first 100 people attending.

“We wanted an event to launch this initiative so that we could let people know more about it and to give the fundraiser a financial boost,” Miss De La Mare said.

“We’re incredibly grateful to St Pierre Park Hotel and Sandpiper for their generosity and also want to thank members of GADOC who will be entertaining the guests,” she said.

A number of other events are being planned in August 2013 to raise the profile of Hospice-tality for our Hospice which will begin on 1st September 2013.

Guests attending events during September will be asked to nominate their favourite dishes which will be collated into a recipe book to go on sale later this year.

“Les Bourgs Hospice is such an important part of the community. This fundraising initiative is one which every member of that community can take part in by either hosting an event or attending one without feeling obliged to host a return event.”

“The idea of the recipe book is that it will reflect which dishes our community enjoys while raising additional funds,” Miss De La Mare said.

The new Les Bourgs Hospice website already has more information on Hospice-tality for our Hospice including downloadable invites and placemats and suggestions for events.
