Jersey in Transition have organised a Permaculture Weekend Workshop on 20 and 21 April 2013.

The educational workshop spills over to Monday 22 April 2013 with tours of some of Jersey’s gardens and farms. The workshop takes place at Frances Le Sueur Centre, Five Mile Road, La Mielle de Morville, St Ouen, Jersey.

JiT believes that permaculture is so important and central to Transition thinking, that they have invited a permaculture expert to visit Jersey.

Permaculture mimics nature to create self sustaining systems, which require as few external inputs as possible to create diverse, healthy systems which nourish all components of the system.

This principle can be applied to the plants, animals, people and soil in a food growing system as well as to the staff, clients, management, and the Earth’s resources, in a business.

Rakesh Rootsman Rak has taught permaculture, permaculture design, forest garden design, food security, and urban permaculture gardening, in places as diverse as London, Denmark, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Poland, Romania, Croatia and Serbia.

The cost of bringing Rakesh Rootsman Rak to Jersey has to be borne by the workshop participants.

The more people who attend the workshop, the further the costs are spread.

However, JiT doesn’t want anyone who is interested or who feels that they could benefit from the weekend workshop to feel that they can’t come because they can’t afford to attend.

Costs of about £600 will have to be recovered so a donation of £50 to £60 for people receiving a salary would be appreciated. The donation can be reduced if more than a dozen people attend.

If your income is small or non-existent, please don’t feel embarrassed putting £2 or nothing into the pot.

It’s a ‘bring lunch to share’ event. There are some facilities for re-heating food and boiling water for drinks at Frances Le Sueur Centre.

Please email Nigel Jones [email protected] if you wish to attend this worthwhile workshop.

Rakesh Rootsman Rak recently spoke about permaculture at Transition Town Bucharest.

His presentation was recorded and posted to Vimeo in two videos. Video 1 (presentation begins after 27 minutes) Video 2.
