Below is a brief summary of the GDA December 2012 newsletter – please download the newsletter for complete information.

  • The next GDA meeting will be on Wednesday 6 February 2013 beginning at 7 pm at the Ron Short Centre.
  • States of Deliberation meetings are now accessible for wheel chair users who have permission from the new Assembly to sit at the back of the Chamber while deputies debate legislation.
  • On 11 December 2012 HSSD announced that The Croft will remain open for adults under 25 for a further six months. A ward is being converted into a temporary three-bedded unit at the King Edward VI Hospital for adults over 25.
  • Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson will be in Guernsey on 17 January 2013 to meet deputies, civil servants, business leaders and GDA members for breakfast (7.45 am for 8 am start until 9.30 am) at the Fontaine Suite at St Pierre Park Hotel to discuss legislation (the original venue was The OGH Hotel but the venue has had to be changed due to circumstances beyond the hotel’s control).   • The GDA is developing a social media campaign called ‘We All Matter, Eh?” to help deputies and the public understand the need for the Disability and Inclusion Strategy, which is being developed for the States of Deliberation to ratify later this year. The GDA is currently recording members stories as part of this social media campaign.
