Specsavers Unsung Hero Award nominations close on 12 December

December 5th, 2012 by Specsavers

Guernsey residents have until Wednesday 12 December 2012 to to submit their nominations for the Specsavers Unsung Hero Award.

The award recognises those who have worked selflessly for the benefit of Guernsey’s community, often behind the scenes.

The Award will be presented at February 2013’s Awards for Achievement gala evening.

Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins said “this is a chance for islanders to honour someone who has made a real difference to Guernsey’s community.”

“People can be nominated for work they have done with a local charity or association, or simply for their efforts to help others,” she said.

Nominations close on Wednesday 12 December 2012.

Forms are available to download or from Specsavers office at La Villiaze, St Andrew or call Alex Hanna on 233667 or e-mail alex.hanna @ specsavers.com.

Forms are also available from the Specsavers store in Market Street, St Peter Port.

After nominations close, panel of judges will select a shortlist from which the public will be asked to vote for a winner.

The successful nominee will receive a £3,000 travel voucher and £1,000 to give to the charity of his or her choice.

Last year’s award was won by Kim Marquis who is involved with several local charities including The Pink Ladies, Wigwam and Guernsey Deaf Children’s Society.

A mother of four children, including one of whom has Down’s Syndrome, she undertakes all her charity work on a voluntary basis.

The awards are considered on an annual basis so islanders can nominate someone put forward in a previous year, but they must be nominated for community work carried out in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
