‘Go Green’ New Year’s Eve ice party in Market Square, St Peter Port

December 31st, 2012 by JT

JT has organised the event in support of fellow Ice Skate Guernsey sponsor Carbon Bureau, in their efforts to use carbon reduction projects in Malaysia, India and China to offset the carbon footprint of the ice-rink in Market Square.

The ice will be turned green for the party which will take place from 4 pm on Monday 31 December 2012.

Skaters of all ages are invited to join in the fun by wearing something green to help turn the rink as ‘green’ as possible.

JT will be awarding spot prizes for the best dressed and serving up mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine to party-goers.

Tamara O’Brien, Deputy MD of JT, said “getting the ‘green’ message across at this time of year is particularly important as it is a time when we are all using a lot more energy to keep our homes warm and lit during the long evenings, it’s also when we are all generating a lot more waste materials from presents and the extra food and drink packaging.”

“This is therefore an ideal opportunity to make green resolutions for 2013.”

“We’re committed to further improving our efforts on the work we already do to be environmentally responsible and hope others will follow. We’re delighted to support Carbon Bureau in their initiative by holding this party and are looking forward to seeing how islanders interpret the ‘green’ theme and whether any of Santa’s elves take to the ice!”

JT urges party-goers to ‘stay safe’ on the ice at all times especially when in fancy dress.

Ice Skate Guernsey in Market Square remains in place until 7 January 2013. Tickets for the Go Green New Year’s Eve party are available online.
