Autism Guernsey and Amalgamated Boxing Club receive funds raised by the 2012 Itex Rotary Walk

December 20th, 2012 by ITEX

Two additional charities will benefit from the funds raised by the 2012 Itex Rotary Walk.

Six hundred and fifteen people registered for the walk along the entire Guernsey coastline. Three hundred and fifty people completed the round the island course on 9 June 2012.

Having raised over £51,000 from the 2012 walk, the Itex Rotary Trust was left with a surplus of £10,000, after distributing funds to its seven selected charities earlier in 2012 at a special presentation hosted by The Lieutenant Governor, Air Marshal Peter Walker at Government House in St Peter Port.

The seven charities were Guernsey Cheshire Home, Guernsey Sailing Trust, Guernsey Botanical Trust, ADHD Support Group, Guernsey MS Society, CI Air Search, and Guernsey Health Information Exchange.

The Committee has received quite a number of applications for funds from the 2013 event and has therefore decided to allocate monies from this year’s event to two of them immediately.

Autism Guernsey and the Amalgamated Boxing Club are the two recipients and will receive cheques for £7,000 and £3,000 respectively.

Richard Parker, Chairman of the Walk organising committee, was delighted to be able to extend the support from the event to more organisations.

“We are never sure how much money the event will raise and thought that – given the current financial climate – we might have seen a shortfall on sponsorship income compared with last year. But sponsors were again extremely generous and as a result we have more money to give away!”

Autism Guernsey is a new charity seeking funding for a training project for its planned befriending scheme.

The Boxing Club is in need of some new gym equipment. The committee felt that these are both extremely worthy if very different causes and is pleased to support them.
