Share Guernsey car journeys with liftshare and save money and fuel

October 1st, 2012 by Liftshare

The liftshare.com website works for Guernsey car journeys.  The service is free for individual users. Corporate clients can join the service for a fee to encourage their employees to share car journeys.

Fill in a form on the liftshare website or register with a Facebook account.

The liftshare service will become increasingly useful to Guernsey residents as more and more people sign-up to use it as it will be easier to find someone going your way.

Use the form to enter the Guernsey postcode for the origin and destination of your journey. The map won’t show the exact location on every occasion but you can add precise information on the origin and destination of your journey in the Comments box.
liftshare Week, an annual celebration to highlight car sharing, runs from 1 to 5 October.

Since this time last year there has been a 15% increase in the number of people inviting others to share lifts with them on the liftshare.com.

Almost all the people who lift-share give ‘saving money’ as one of their main reasons for sharing.

Matthew in Leeds said “car-sharing has reduced my petrol costs from £2,500 to £1,100 a year. I’ve also found it very enjoyable, having company in the car, and the ability to read or catch-up with emails and texts when I’m not driving.”

Last year’s campaign, which saw over 6,200 people signing up to try lift-sharing in just five days, won the 2012 EU Sustainability Week Award for Travelling.

“In the last two months alone, unleaded prices have risen by 5.8% and diesel prices have risen by 5%,” said Ali Clabburn, liftshare.com’s founder.

“There are no signs that prices are going to stop spiralling. Many UK motorists are now spending more on fuel every month than on food. As many UK drivers can’t afford to give up their cars, liftshare is witnessing a significant increase in the number of people inviting others to share lifts.”
