The trustees and friends of Male Uprising Guernsey were out on the nature trail on Saturday 20 October 2012 making good the path after the Dominion Fund Management MUG Bike Ride on Sunday 14 October 2012.
Sections of the path were rutted and muddy after cyclists were allowed along the trail as part of the off-road cycle route but MUG were quick to ensure that walkers’ enjoyment of the area was not affected by the event.
About 450 riders participated in the coastal bike ride, which raised over £15,000 for the charity.
MUG was founded in February 2012 to help men affected by cancer and raise awareness of prostate, testicular and bowel cancers amongst men on the island.
Trevor Kelham, MUG’s founder, was determined that the paths were attended to as quickly as possible. The team of volunteers shovelled several trailer-loads of wood-chips over muddy parts of the woodland path.
“The mountain bike event was a great success. It looks like we will be able to repeat the event in 2014 thanks to the continued support and generosity of Dominion Fund Management,” Trevor Kelham said.
“We’re very grateful for the support we’ve had from all sections for the Guernsey community particularly The States of Guernsey Environment Department, L’Ancresse Common Council, the Douzaines of the Vale, St Sampson and Castel, and the various private landowners who permitted the use of their land,” he said.
