The 2012 Community Awards presentation and afternoon tea is scheduled for Wednesday 7 November 2012 at St James Concert and Assembly Hall from 5 pm to 7.30 pm. Tickets for the event are £10 per person and includes afternoon tea.
The event is a celebration of all the hard work undertaken in the voluntary and charity sector.
Baroness Pitkeathley OBE is the speaker for this year’s event.
Baroness Pitkeathley is an active working Labour Peer and is Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords.
Educated at Ladies College, Guernsey, she became a social worker and then founded the Carers’ Movement in the United Kingdom. She has been chair of a major lottery distributor, of the Family Court Advisory Service and several government committees.
She is currently Chair of the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care and is a Trustee of the Big Society Trust.
“We are delighted that Baroness Pitkeathley is available to speak at the 2012 Community Awards. With her local roots and her vast experience and knowledge of the voluntary sector across the UK she is sure to be an inspiration to our guests,” said Laurel Le Tocq, Guernsey Community Foundation.
Tickets for the event will be sold on a first come first served basis.
“Last year, we were full to capacity. Now that the event has proven itself, and with such a relevant and interesting speaker lined up, we expect to be full to capacity again. We recommend that anyone wishing to attend contacts us quickly to secure their tickets,” said Laurel.
Nominations are now being received for the six award categories:
Charity of the Year – sponsored by State Street Global Services. The winner of this award will receive £3,000 for the project or charity of its choice.
Outstanding Individual Achievement – sponsored by Schroders Private Banking. The winner of this award will receive £2,000 for the project or charity of its choice.
Fundraising Team of the Year – sponsored by Sportingbet. The winner of this award will receive £2,000 for the project or charity of its choice.
Overseas Award – sponsored by Specsavers. The winner of this award will receive £2,000 for the project or charity of its choice.
Organising Committee of the Year – sponsored by RG Falla. The winner of this award will receive £2,000 for the project or charity of its choice.
CSR Award – supported by the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce.
The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 26 September 2012.
