Route de Mare de Carteret closed to 5 October 2012 for Guernsey Water main repairs

September 24th, 2012 by Guernsey Water

Guernsey Water has closed the Route de Mare de Carteret, Castel, until 5 October 2012 in order to carry out essential water main repairs.

The repairs are necessary due to a recent burst along the main, and a number of historic bursts in the same area.

The main will be sliplined, which involves the insertion of a smaller-diameter pipe into the existing one. Compared to standard pipe replacement, this approach is cheaper, quicker, and causes less disruption to traffic.

Andrew Redhead, Director of water services, said “when a pipe bursts, we always look at its history to see if it is particularly prone to any problems. If it is, then it makes sense for us to carry out more permanent works rather than simply patching up the pipe. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

For information on the diversion that will be in place during the closure, please visit the Island Roadworks Information System (IRIS) or contact Guernsey’s Environment Department’s Traffic and Transport Section on 243400.
