Floral Guernsey’s Autumn Festival Week will include a visit from Countryfile presenter Matt Baker.

Mr Baker is hosting a breakfast at The Farmhouse Hotel, St Saviours (Perry’s Guide ref: 14 C4) from 9.15 am to 11 am on Sunday 7 October 2012 when he will share his favourite encounters from his time presenting Countryfile, including his best memories of Guernsey from the episode filmed in the island. This event costs £19 per person, and includes the talk and a full English breakfast. Tickets are available through the Guernsey Information Centre (telephone: 723552)

Mr Baker began his television career with more than seven years on Blue Peter before moving on to present City Hospital and The One Show.

He grew up on his family’s sheep farm and the love of animals learned there made him a perfect choice for fronting shows like Crufts, One Man and His Dog, Summer Countryfile diaries, Animal Rescue Live and Animal Rescue Squad.

As well as presenting Sunday night’s Countryfile he writes for the Countryfile magazine.

Matt Baker will hold a children’s workshop from 2.30 pm to 3.15 pm on Saturday 6 October 2012 for six to 10 year old children at The Orchard House, Victorian Walled Garden, Saumarez Park, (Perry’s Guide Ref: 15 G2) talking about his experiences of growing up on a farm and his career in TV.

This event is free but parents must book a place for their children by sending an email to floralguernsey @ hotmail.co.uk with the child’s full name and age.

Children are encouraged to bring along questions for Mr Baker to answer during the session.

The festival week is one of many events made possible by a three year sponsorship deal with Resolution Limited, Guernsey’s first FTSE 100 company.

Tony Spruce, Chairman of Floral Guernsey, hopes Mr Baker will inspire local youngsters to get involved with outdoor activities.

“Matt Baker is the third impressive speaker we’ve secured this year and so hopefully he can build on the excitement generated by Monty Don and Diarmuid Gavin.”

“He has won two BAFTA awards for Best Children’s Presenter so he is perfectly qualified to pass on his enthusiasm for nature to the island’s young people,” he said.

A range of other events will take place during the Autumn Festival Week.

Further information and tickets are available from the Guernsey Information Centre on 01481 723552.
