The European Commission’s Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign is a three-year initiative aimed at supporting sustainable urban mobility campaigners in 31 countries.
Activities began with the opening of a registration system to support outstanding actions for fostering positive change in attitudes and behaviour.
The central objective of the campaign is to promote the advantages of combining different modes of transportation.

The Lloyds TSB Banking Group Community Fund aims to support communities by awarding local organisations with £5,000. In every community across Britain there are lots of local good causes that inspire, support and unlock the potential of young people.
Lloyds TSB staff nominated the organisations that matter most to them. A public vote will decided which of the following two Guernsey charities will receive £5,000 each:

Miss Bosha volunteered to do the work in response to an appeal by the charity, which looks after AIDS orphans in Tanzania. KPMG supported her aims as part of the firm’s corporate citizenship programme.
During the ten day visit, Miss Bosha put the accountancy skills to the test reviewing the charity’s financial reports from 2011, against supporting statements and invoices, to assure that everything was in order ahead of the annual audit, which is conducted every year to international standards, and is signed off by Roger Arundale, Tumaini Funds honorary auditor. However, customers will no longer have to pay the ‘sewage treatment investigation’ portion of the charge, which was removed from the charge with effect from 31st March 2012.
This additional charge, which was originally set at £50 per household per year, was used to fund the study carried out by marine experts Intertek METOC in 2011 and some other sewer pipe repairs necessary to reduce the amount of seawater entering the system. The result of the marine study informed the States Report which was approved by the States of Guernsey at their January 2012 meeting. Continue reading

He has gained significant expertise in renewable technologies, the opportunities for Guernsey, and the challenges which the industry faces.
Mr. Thompson is involved in a number of other ventures in Guernsey and has significant commercial experience which will be of significant use to the Renewable Energy Team.

The 2012 South Show takes place at the Professor Shaw Community Centre (St Martin’s Community Centre) on Friday 10 August from 1 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday 11 August from 10 am to 7 pm.
The show exhibits include fruit and vegetables, floral displays, arts and crafts, children’s entries, Face Painting, Balloon man, bouncy castle, stalls, and refreshments.

The Bat Walk begins at 8.30 pm on Friday 27 July 2012 at La Houguette School, St Pierre du Bois, Guernsey (Perry’s page 21 E2).
Children should be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. The walk will be on public lanes, roads and paths. Please wear suitable footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions at the time.

Guernsey residents are being urged to return their Connie the cow milk cartons as the fundraising initiative for Les Bourgs Hospice draws to a close.
Cartons returned so far have raised over £21,000 but now organisers are appealing to islanders to help them increase that total by returning cartons, no matter how many coins they contain.
“It doesn’t matter how full or empty the cartons are, literally every penny counts. People can also include foreign currency notes as well, all we ask is that they are put in a bag or envelope to keep them separate,” said campaign organiser Helen O’Meara.
“We are hoping that July 2012 will see a record number of cartons collected and more importantly it being the month when we raise the most money.” Continue reading
