Deutsche Bank Community Re-Gen programme provides new garden for Wesley Community Centre

May 30th, 2012 by Deutsche Bank International Ltd.

Staff at Deutsche Bank in Guernsey have completed an incredibly busy Volunteering Week for their Community Regeneration Project, Wesley Community Centre.

As part of the Bank’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, this initiative was launched on Island FM in February 2012 and a total of eight projects were nominated in Guernsey.

Wesley Community Centre was declared the winner following a staff vote.

DB Staff have been working from 21 to 25 May 2012 in shifts to construct a brand new garden space for all who attend this facility. The groups that use the centre range from pre-school children to adults and senior citizens and the centre is busy every day.

The Wesley-users have never been able to use their garden to its full capacity, so this project has opened up a whole new range of activities and space for them.

The garden has refurbished fencing, a wheelchair path, new turf, a pagoda and new plants. The jobs have spanned from erecting and painting fences, digging up and relaying turf, creating new pathways and planting.

Jessica Smith, Deutsche Bank Project Co-ordinator, said “we have had such generous offers from Guernsey businesses and we’d like to thank AFM Limited, who have worked alongside the Deutsche Bank team all week; as well as Dell Nursery, Stan Brouard, RH Gaudion and B & Q who have all provided essential input and supplies.”

Kim Abbots, Practice Manager of Wesley Pre-School said “we really can’t believe the volume of work that Deutsche Bank team has undertaken this week. Words can’t describe what this means to us and, more importantly, to the people who will get so much enjoyment from the garden”.

Andreas Tautscher, CEO Channel Islands at Deutsche Bank commented “Volunteering Week is very important to our staff offering them the chance to support a local charity or community group which will really benefit from the work we carry out. We have had a lot of fun helping out this week. The hard work of the Deutsche Bank team has resulted in a re-generated garden space created especially for local residents who regularly use Wesley Community Centre.”
