The Guernsey Cheshire Home and The Guernsey MS Society are teaming up again to host “It’s a Knockout” on Saturday 14 July 2012 at Saumarez Park.

Intertrust Guernsey, as in previous years, has chosen to sponsor for the event to benefit the charities.

We have a wonderful opportunity to raise significant funds for two local charities given the generous support from Intertrust, and a continuing travel subsidy from Condor Ferries,

For more than 24 years The Cheshire Home has provided both long term residential and day care for islanders with serious physical disabilities and is totally reliant on charitable support.

The MS Society provides a broad range of support for about 150 people in the Bailiwick who are coping with this debilitating condition, which often manifests itself in young adulthood. Funds are needed by the Society to supply specialist equipment such as hoists, beds and wheelchairs. Funds are also used to provide adaptations for homes and vehicles and generally to assist people with MS to lead and maintain as independent a life as possible.

“It’s a Knockout” will take place with 24 teams drawn from all corners of our island community. Early soundings indicate a strong demand to participate in the fun and frolics.

Each mixed gender team will consist of 12 participants with a minimum age of 17 years and will be challenged with such diverse activities as The Budgie Game, which is a demanding assault course through slippery tunnels.

We are expecting every team to come along with a unique identity and to harness their natural competitive spirit.

The entry fee is £420 per team (£35 per participant). There will be opportunities to raise funds in excess of this entry fee by way of sponsorship. This year we will have a car raffle sponsored by Forest Road Garage.

To register a team please email itsaknockoutgsy @ cwgsy.net

We recommend early contact to assure your team has the opportunity to participate. We will respond with information on how to complete your team entry form, advice on what to wear, and other useful information.

A new and exciting element to the day is “Junior Knockout” with teams in the age range 15 to 16 drawn from schools and local sporting teams.

As in previous years we hope to have public support measured in the thousands, including enthusiastic supporters for each team.

This year will put even more emphasis on the event being a day out for the family.

We will have a broad variety of stalls offering local produce and curios. There will be face painting,“ Name the IKO Teddy”, children’s bouncy castles, game stalls, Guernsey’s very own “Balloon Man” and other attractions.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day including a BBQ, cakes, teas and soft drinks.

We welcome the public from noon, and following final team registration, serious “It’s a Knockout” action will commence.

There is no entrance fee to watch the competition. Parking will be available at the Home Farm by donation.

Our intent is to bring enjoyment and fun to our island community. However we hope spectactors will donate whatever they can to support two important local charities.
