Caritas Community Charitable Trust receives Coast Media’s expertise

March 26th, 2012 by Coast Media

Coast Media, the local design and publishing agency, has announced its partnership with the Caritas Community Charitable Trust as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive.

The design, photography and PR teams will assist Caritas, which seeks to help young people in need, by using their expertise to publicise and promote the charity’s fundraising efforts.

The decision follows calls from Stephen Jones and Shelaine Green, Chair of the Guernsey Disability Alliance, for businesses to use their brains and expertise to help Guernsey’s charity sector.

Caritas, founded by Richard Bellinger, began in 2008 with the vision of creating a residential community, which would act as a safe house for troubled young people. Daily routine would involve caring for a working vegetable garden – an activity proven to relieve stress and grow self-esteem.

Three growing seasons later and the charity has successfully set up and run a market kitchen, selling produce at the St Martin Farmers Market, and worked with young people from the Probation Service, Prison Service, Social Security ‘CEPS’ scheme, Action for Children, HSSD, the Guernsey Youth Service, States Education and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

Reverend Bellinger said ‘we have proven our ability to plan and manage a profitable vegetable garden through snow, drought and pest issues whilst building relationships with appropriate organisations. We have listened to young people and know now more than ever that there is a real need for the Caritas Community.

‘We are moving on to phase two – the fundraising stage – and needed to create some promotional material to inform people about our project. My expertise is in gardening and I know nothing about marketing, designing or publishing so I’m very grateful to Coast Media for lending us their skills,’ he added.

Katie Blampied, Coast Media managing director, said ‘Corporate Social Responsibility, and the best way for businesses to contribute to the communities they operate in, is a topic of interest and debate. We should all commit ourselves to give back. At Coast we felt it best to lend our expertise. We could have helped Richard dig up potatoes but we felt our time would be better used by doing what we do best – creating visually impressive, well-written and thorough promotional material.’

The Caritas Community is looking to raise in the region of £1.5 million in order to purchase a farmhouse large enough to house residents and staff with land available to grow vegetables and keep animals. The project is a Church of England Deanery initiative.
