RBC Wealth Management offers financial help to Guernsey charities

January 27th, 2012 by RBC Wealth Management

Finding sufficient funding can be a major challenge for smaller charities.

One Guernsey firm aims to help each year by supporting lesser known associations and projects.

“We invite registered Guernsey charities to receive grants, ranging from a few hundred to a thousand pounds,” said Alan Pearce, Chairman of RBC Wealth Management‘s Donations Fund Committee.

“We’d love to hear from Island-based charities looking for grants for 2012, especially for initiatives focusing on youth and education, amateur sport or health and wellbeing.”

The Guernsey Bereavement Service was one of the charities which received a grant from the company’s donations fund last year. The charity was given a cash boost of £1,200 to support education initiatives.

Bereavement Service Co-ordinator Maura Stacey, MBE, explained that the charity’s volunteers have the opportunity to complete an accredited Diploma course on the Island.

She said “at present, ten of our counsellors are studying for the qualification, which will be of tremendous benefit to our clients.”

“It’s fantastic that this two-year course is being offered in Guernsey but there are still considerable sums to meet in bringing the trainers over. We are therefore grateful for the donation from RBC Wealth Management in contributing to this new initiative.”

The fund is an important way for RBC Wealth Management to reach out to the wider community.

“It allows us to make a valuable contribution to many smaller charitable projects – in 2011 we were able to support 33 community commitments in the Island to the tune of around £10,000,” said Mr Pearce.

“We now look forward to receiving grant applications for 2012 so we can continue our wide-ranging support programme this year.”

Other recipients of the fund last year were the Guernsey Adolescent Smokefree Project (GASP), Mind, Drug Concern, ADHD Support Group and the Guernsey Scout Association.

Requests for a grant from the RBC Wealth Management Donations Fund should include the charity’s name and registration number, details of the project for which a grant is requested and the desired amount.
