A couple of years ago members of the Guernsey broadcast media joked on air that electric cars would struggle up Val des Terres.

Driving the electric motor powered Peugeot iOn up Val des Terres banishes all thoughts that a vehicle like this would struggle up any of Guernsey’s steep hills.

The Peugeot iOn accelerates smoothly, powerfully and effortlessly up Val des Terres.

Borrowing it for a test drive from Motor Mall Peugeot at Airport Forecourt in Forest on a dark, damp day, the car performed well and was a pleasure for my wife to drive.  She was impressed by how easy and fun it was to drive and how responsive it was to the touch of the accelerator.

The small Peugeot iOn is ideal for Guernsey’s narrow roads but after transferring from a larger car, initially it gives the feeling of leaning when taking corners. However its low centre of gravity provides stability.

Even though electric cars are more efficient that fossil fueled powered cars, and cost less to run, the purchase price will have to come down substantially for this car to gain widespread popularity and become common on Guernsey roads.

When the price comes down electric cars will have a strong following because they are such a pleasure to drive, so easy to fuel, and cheaper to run.

Charging up on Guernsey Electricity’s cheaper Economy 12 tariff overnight will use mainly low carbon electricity from France and help even out Guernsey Electricity’s demand.

The age of the electric car is dawning. This is good news for Guernsey as the widespread adoption of electric vehicles will substantially reduce traffic pollution and the smog, dust, and health impacts that brings with it.

Call Motor Mall Peugeot on 235533 for a test drive of the all electric powered Peugeot iOn.
