The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce raised at their annual dinner more than £3000 for Guernsey Disability Alliance.

According to a press release in early October 2011, the Renault Twizy Colour electric vehicle will be launched in the UK in March 2012 with a price of £6690. Customers will also have to hire the battery for £40 per month, which includes VAT.
There will be two other models, the Twizy Urban and Twizy Technic, which will be priced at £6950.
The Renault Twizy Colour will charge fully in 3 1/2 hours and have a driving range of 60 miles. Continue reading

News from the USA that Ford Motor Company’s Michigan Assembly Plant is starting production of the 2012 Focus Electric, expected to be the first five-passenger, all-electric car to achieve more than a 100 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) fuel efficiency rating.

Thousands of UK construction trainees are set to benefit from a new national centre for sustainable building skills launched in Stoke-on-Trent.
CoRE, the Centre for Refurbishment Excellence, was officially opened by Andrew Stunell MP, Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
Built at a cost of £11.4 million, CoRE, in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, will take trainees from across the UK. Continue reading

LEDs can lighten the gloom in social housing and bring about significant reductions in energy and maintenance costs, according to an Energy Saving Trust field trial of over 4,000 light fittings in England.
Management consultants McKinsey recently forecast that LED lighting has the potential to become the dominant technology in domestic and commercial lighting as early as 2015. Continue reading

The States of Guernsey Commerce and Employment Department is set to develop stronger relations with Guernsey Electricity Limited to progress macro renewable energy in Guernsey’s waters.
Commerce and Employment, under a subgroup called the “Renewable Energy Team” (RET), has the remit to progress Guernsey’s potential to develop local renewable energy supplies. This covers all large-scale renewable projects in the marine environment (not smaller projects or on land) and it is investigating all forms of marine renewable including tidal, wave and wind power.
RET will now be assisted on an informal basis by two senior members of Guernsey Electricity Ltd’s board who will complement RET’s existing members which include deputies, senior civil servants and independent advisors, including one from Sark. Continue reading

The Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association Centre has been improved with new lighting thanks to Guernsey Electricity and local electrical wholesaler ES&M.
