The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce raised at their annual dinner more than £3000 for Guernsey Disability Alliance.

His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey, Air Marshal Peter Walker, as Patron of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, presented to Shelaine Green, Chair of Guernsey Disability Alliance, the proceeds of the fund raising.

“This is a wonderful Christmas present to the Guernsey Disability Alliance,” Shelaine Green said.

“The GDA is about 30 disability charities joined together with over 40 individual disabled people and their families to speak on the issues we have in common,” she said. “You know us primarily through our campaigning activities, but actually that is just a small part of what we do.”

“We provide information for disabled people. There are various pockets of support and not all disabled people know about them so a lot of what the charity does is raise awareness amongst the disabled community about the support that is there.”

“In 2011 we launched our website and a Facebook page.”

“We are sitting down in January to decide our priorities and make our plans. It will be absolutely lovely as we are coming up with new ideas, really good ideas for spreading that information that we have a little bit of money with which to be able to do it and we promise to spend it wisely. Thank you very much.”
