Chris Huhne, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, has revealed more evidence of the economic benefits of renewable energy as he reaffirmed the UK government coalition’s commitment to meeting European Union renewable energy targets. This came as the UK published an update on progress to source 15% of all energy from renewable sources by 2020.

The 12th Annual Guernsey Cheshire Home Boxing Day Dip began at 10.30 am. Hundreds of Guernsey swimmers enjoyed the sunshine and the cool waters of Cobo on 26 December 2011 to raise money for Guernsey Cheshire Home.
Guernsey Cheshire Home Chairman Jurat Stephen Jones speaking on BBC Guernsey said that the event wasn’t really a swim but a dip and joked that the dip would start at 10.30 am and last until nearly 10.31 am. Continue reading

The latest UK Government figures on the amount of electricity generated by wind power have been welcomed by RenewableUK, the country’s largest renewable energy trade association, as proof of the increasingly significant contribution wind energy makes to UK households.
Statistics for the third quarter of 2011, released by the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change, show that renewable sources generated 9% of the UK’s electricity from July to September 2011. That represents an increase of nearly 1% on the same quarter last year. Continue reading

Washing machines, driers and refrigerators offer considerable potential for saving energy.
BSH is planning an extensive development project to lower domestic electricity consumption and reduce water consumption.

Wave Hub, the offshore marine energy project in Cornwall, which allows developers to test new wave energy technology, will be taken on by the UK Government to secure its future as a vital part of the UK’s green energy sources.
Wave Hub is a grid-connected offshore ‘socket’ in South West England for the large scale testing (arrays) of wave energy devices that generate electricity from the power of the waves.
The Wave Hub infrastructure was installed in 2010 about 16 km off the North Cornwall coast with the undersea connecting cable coming ashore at Hayle.
