The pleasure of Guernsey Bicycle Group summer evening rides

July 7th, 2011 by Richard Lord

On Tuesday 28 June 2011 the Guernsey Bicycle Group riders met at Le Friquet Garden Centre.  The group included visitors to the island that regularly participate in GBG’s summer evening rides.

The Guernsey Bicycle Group summer evening rides demonstrate how ideally suited the bicycle is for traveling around Guernsey.

The leisurely rides cover with little effort surprisingly large areas of the island.  At their gentle speed they reveal Guernsey’s appealing nature.

Bicycling provides a sense of freedom and an intimate connection with the environment.

The summer evening rides provide a social opportunity for sharing stories with fellow travellers.

The bicyclists can stop by the side of the road to enjoy the view without the worry of blocking traffic.  And bicyclists don’t have a need to reverse up a road to make way for on-coming traffic.

Bicycling is an excellent way of feeling connected with Guernsey’s landscape.  A bicycle makes it so easy to stop at a road-side well, a monument, a stone engraving or a plaque to learn about Guernsey’s history, and it provides an ideal platform to enjoy the view,
