350.org founder Bill McKibben speaks at Power Shift 2011 about the urgency of reducing carbon emissions

April 18th, 2011 by Richard Lord

Bill McKibben said “the science is clear. We have a number, 350 parts per million. 350 – the most important number on Earth as the NASA team put it in January 2008.”

“Any value for carbon in the atmosphere greater than 350 parts per million is not compatible with the planet on which civilisation developed, into which life of Earth is adapted.”

“Getting back to 350 ppm is going to be very tough. The toughest thing that human beings have ever done but there is no use complaining about it. It is just physics and chemistry. That’s what we have to do.”

“If the scientific method has worked splendidly to outline our dilemma, that’s how badly the political method has worked to solve it.”
