Guernsey Wastewater closes Rue du Manoir in the Forest for manhole refurbishment from 21 March to 15 April 2011

March 18th, 2011 by Guernsey Water

Guernsey Wastewater will be carrying out the next phase of their ongoing manhole refurbishment programme in Rue du Manoir in the Forest.

The works, which run from 21 March to 15 April 2011, will require the road to be closed as heavy concrete cover slabs are taken off and a new lining system is put in place. Selected manholes will be worked on in groups so as to maintain as much access to properties as possible while the works are ongoing.

Andrew Redhead, director of water services, said: “These refurbishments are necessary because the condition of these manholes has deteriorated due to them being close to one of the major cesspit-sewage emptying points. As the sewage from cesspits is not ‘fresh’, it can create a gas called hydrogen sulphide which attacks the structure of the manholes, causing them to collapse if they are not repaired in time. We do apologise for any inconvenience that these essential works may cause.”

The works will be carried out by Guernsey Wastewater’s appointed term contractor Geotrant, and will be overseen by Guernsey Wastewater’s drainage project manager.
