The Electric Smart Car is ideal for Guernsey

July 4th, 2010 by Richard Lord

Tim Henderson loves his electric Smart Car.   It is extremely economical to run, has plenty of acceleration, and plenty of power, and is great for parking.  Overnight charging from an ordinary 13 amp household socket (on Economy 12, which currently costs 6.3 pence per unit) gives his electric Smart car a range of about 45 miles, which is ample for Guernsey.

Tim, who has retired from banking, worked in many countries and drove many cars.  He says his electric smart car, which is quiet and has plenty of zip, is his favourite car.

Tim’s electric Smart car was purchased from The Electric Vehicles Company in Guernsey.  The Electric Vehicle Company swaps an internal combustion engine for an electric motor powered by lithium batteries.  Currently they produce battered powered electric motor versions of the Citroën Ev’ie, the Fiat Panda, the Peugeot 107, and the Smart Car.  They also produce electric commercial vehicles including the Peugeot Bipper, the Citroën Nemo, and the Fiat Fiorino van.
