The Longue Hougue domestic waste recycling facility is accessed by the road on the right side of Bulwer Avenue when heading north to St. Sampson.

The Longue Hougue waste recycling facility is available for domestic recycling only. No commercial waste is accepted at this facility. The facility is open from Monday to Friday from 7.30 am to 4 pm and on weekends from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm between 1 April and 31 October 2010. The following items can be brought to the Longue Hougue waste recycling facility:
Bicycles
Bicycles brought here can be collected by householders for refurbishment. The person who collects any item from the site must sign a disclaimer form.
White goods such as kitchen appliances (fridges, cookers, washing machines, freezers etc.)
Pots and pans
Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE – TVs, stereos, computers etc.)
Wooden furniture
Internal and external doors in good condition but not including PVC doors.
Ferrous metal (metals containing iron) and metal furniture
Lead-acid batteries
Household batteries
Compact discs, DVDs and videos
Cassette tapes and video tapes available for scavenging or recycling at the Longue Hougue waste recycling facility
Printer ink cartridges
Paint cans with residual paint
Clean, white Polystyrene (no food trays)
Clean wood (wood for stoves – must not include chipwood, MDF, or plywood)
In addition, the Longue Hougue facility will accept bricks, whole paving slabs, flower pots in good condition, dry cardboard, clothing & shoes in good condition, cooking oil and motor oil.
The following items can be left with a member of staff: fire extinguishers, computer high towers and laptop computers, electric cable, copper and lead, knives, fluorescent tubes and low energy light bulbs, and full bottles of gas.

Seeing how busy Longue Hougue is shows us that an undercover Re-use / Repair / Reclamation centre would be really popular in Guernsey. There is plenty of space at Longue Hougue for such a facility…… we just need someone with the vision and inclination to make it a reality.
